I like it more and more each time I listen and find something new as time passes. Not suprisingly, the majority of us never hear of these events and the U.S. It definitely catches you off-gaurd. 4th World War is an independent documentary that inspired the album, and it depicts everyday people taking an active stance against oppression.and succeed. Dig a little deeper, and think about the album with this concept in mind. Yes, it may seem like a lot of work, but she is an artist, and arent't we tired of being spoon-fed the lies and mockery parading as music nowadays. The album has a militant stance with "hidden" references to NOI and other principles (i.e. I saw here in concert last May in NYC and the album and the concept behind it became much clearer.
populace in general is unbelievingly naive and unaware of uprisings so close to our own backyards.but I digress :) In short, the album seeks to inspire as the film does, that we CAN make a difference. I say well done. Looking at the earlier reviews, I can see why some would not give it as high a ranking. in Amerykan promise "Has any one seen my 42 laws.") But, I was not discouraged and dug deeper. It's all too easy to become apathetic, this album is like Lawrence Fishbourne in School Daze ringing the bell alerting everyone to WAKE UP.
The lies, the confusion, the sorrow, the anger. I put my faith in Jehovah to end it. No matter what your beliefs are, you have to be living under a rock to miss the fact that we cannot continue this way. Everyone knows we are in "The Last Days". Erykah has morphed her style into intelligent Hip Hop Soul this time. This album is a distinct departure from Erykah's earlier Classical Jazz influenced smooth, rich Soul. It is truly a masterpiece because of it's commentary on today's world conditions. I commend Erykah for taking note and documenting the sentiments of the common people at this time in history.
Erykah has the understanding of who she is and aware of her condition here in Amerykah. When niggah's turn into gods walls do come tumblin.it is something to see.whoaaaaa. Sistah Erykah Badu is knowledge and science. Erykah has delieverd an awesome piece and hope she can continue in delievering the truth.
that's a lot for 1 album. some bits get too silly with the sound effects and the tweaked voices, but they are more like skits rather than track spoilers like the voices over J Dilla's 'the shinning.' :(the intro to honey is a bit annoying too.
maybe she should stick to what she does best: write, sing, groove and dope as can be :) then she screws up the countdown to honey '.4, 3, 2, 2 1/2.
erykah pretends to be some sort of radio host or airport announcer. thank you.' 2 1/2 after 2.
soldier, twinkle, master teacher (.)., that hump, telephone and honey are among the best badu tracks ever. its ludicrous to award new amerykah less than 4 stars.it has those raw bits that make baduism so good and genius production that make worldwide underground what it is.
1.
Love it. "This Album is off-the-hook". If you like 70's funk.you"ll love this one.
